Saddleback Church uses Microsoft Entra ID for single sign-on (SSO) authentication with many of our church resources, including Google Chrome and Google Workspace.
Additional authentication security has been accomplished using text message (SMS) or mobile app codes.
Microsoft has decided to stop supporting SMS in 2027. Therefore, all users will need to remove the SMS method and register another authentication method (like Microsoft Authenticator).
Please note that while you can register authentication methods using only your mobile device, we strongly recommend using a computer browser alongside your mobile device for this process.
If you have SMS enabled, you may see a prompt when logging in to your account to nudge you to install Microsoft Authenticator as a new authentication method.
Click Next to continue
If you have not already installed the Microsoft Authenticator app, you may be able to click Skip for now to snooze registration for a limited time
If you do not see the nudge at logon, you can visit https://aka.ms/mfasetup to add a sign-in method.
The app should be downloaded (see the link below) and installed on your mobile device from the Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) before registering your account with Microsoft Authenticator.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/authenticator/download-microsoft-authenticator
Launch the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device after installing it
Allow notifications to your device
Follow the prompt in the app to add an account or Tap the plus (+)
Select Work or school account
Once those steps are completed in the app, click Next in the browser
In the Microsoft Authenticator app, select Scan QR code
Scan the QR code displayed in your browser using the camera view in the app
In the browser, a two-digit code will appear to verify your authentication.
On your mobile device, a Microsoft Authenticator notification will ask if you are trying to sign in
Enter the two-digit number
Tap Yes
Microsoft Authenticator has now been added as your default MFA method.
Click Done
Check "Don't show this again"
Click No
If you completed these steps by visiting the Password Portal at https://password.saddleback.com/, then you will be taken to the Security Info page once registration is complete.
If you completed Microsoft Authenticator registration while trying to log in to another resource, then you will be redirected to that resource.
This page shows the information tied to your Microsoft Entra ID account. It can be used to modify sign-in methods or to change your password. It is available through the Password Portal when updating your MFA settings and is also available directly at https://aka.ms/mfasetup.
After completing registration for Microsoft Authenticator and confirming it has been added as a sign-in method:
Change your default sign-in method to a method other than SMS (such as "App based authentication - notification" for Microsoft Authenticator)
Delete your phone number (since it will no longer be available for SMS once Microsoft turns off that service)
